Teach yourself plain English with our on-line course

You can start learning how to use plain English straight away by signing up for our on-line course. You can learn at your own pace, at home or at work. The course takes around four hours to complete, but you don't have to do it all at once.

If you manage a team, or are responsible for your organisation's training, you can train all your people to use plain English without their having to leave their desks. We can provide the course on CD-ROM for you to copy to your employees or instal on your organisation's intranet or network.

The course includes all the topics that we cover in our

successful classroom courses and there is even a plain English phrase book to help you if you're stuck for the right word. The course includes:
- what do we mean by plain English?
- the main plain English techniques
- using everyday words
- keeping your sentences short and effective
- using 'bullet lists'
- making your writing 'human'
- writing 'actively'
- punctuating properly
- grammar tips
- writing letters and reports.

There are lots of exercises to help you practise your new-found skills and knowledge. When you have finished the course you can create a personalised action plan to help you continue to develop.

How does it work?

When you enrol we will send you a user name and password. Then you can access our server and work on the course as many times as you want over the next four weeks.

If you prefer, you can try the course one lesson at a time. This is a great idea if you want a refresher on just one or two topics, or if you don't think you'll have the time to work through the whole course in 30 days. This way, you get 30 days' access to each lesson you subscribe to. More information.

For organisations wanting a number of people to have access we provide the course on CD-ROM.

For organisations - please contact us for a free preview of the course. We provide the course on CD-ROM and you pay for a licence to copy the material to staff or to instal it on an intranet or network. There is a sliding scale of charges based on the number of employees who would have access to the course. The more people you want to have access, the cheaper it gets 'per head'. More information.

For individuals - it costs £85 to access the course for a month. If you are in the EU we will add VAT at 17.5%. If you prefer, you can order individual lessons rather than buy the whole course.
