It is fundamental that all staff members working within our trust work safely and within their legal and professional scope of practice. Health care staff must not carry out any task that could cause injury to you or to him / herself.

Recent statistics within the United Kingdom identify back pain as the nation’s leading cause of disability. It is estimated that half of all working adults will experience the discomfort of back pain within any given year. Back pain can affect people regardless of their age, gender and geography but occupation does make a difference.

Evidence based research shows that people working within the health care sector experience a higher than average prevalence of low back pain. The nursing profession has a particularly high lifetime prevalence rate of 73%.
